Gutted to learn that the loco services on the Cumbria Coast have now been withdrawn and have been replaced by ex scotrail 156 units.
Travelling in the loco hauled Mark 2 coaches was in my opinion the best way to travel the Cumbria Coast. You was guaranteed a table with a window. Every seat had generous amounts of leg room and the seats were incredibly comfy.
I fully understand that the loco's reliability was often criticised, but in my experience the sprinter operated services were just as unreliable.
Anyway. It's sad to see them go. Only time will tell if 2 carriage 156 units can take the same amount of passengers as the loco services. One thing i know for sure, they won't be as pleasant or comfy to travel on. And for that reason i will probably choose to go to Carlisle via the West Coast Main Line now.
